Franklin’s to host annual goose farm walk

The British Goose Producers (BGP) will this year be holding their annual farm walk event at Franklin’s of Thorncote, near Sandy in Bedfordshire.

The highlight of the BGP calendar, the event brings together producers, suppliers and stakeholders to share good practice, discuss the issues of the day and support new entrants into the sector.

This year, for the first time, there will also be a small trade show, where producers and suppliers can meet.

John Franklin, chairman of the BGP and host for the event, said: “While the Christmas goose is the main focus, most BGP members operate diverse farms raising other poultry and livestock and often selling all year round through their own farm shops, local butchers or farmers markets. We want to support them and make this event something that adds value to their whole business.”

The event starts at 10.30am on Thursday 16 October and will include a tour of the farm, slaughterhouse and butchery areas, followed by a hog roast lunch and the trade show.

If you are interested in starting goose production and would like to come along to the farm walk, or are a supplier looking to take affiliate membership and be part of the trade show, please contact Richard Griffiths at the British Poultry Council on rgriffiths@britishpoultry.org.uk for more details.
