NFU intentions survey seeks input from egg and poultry producers
As egg producers emerge from the economic doldrums and broiler growers continue to endure a profit squeeze, the NFU is asking poultry farmers to share their production intentions via a new survey, to assess the impact this will have on the sector.
NFU poultry board chairman James Mottershead said: “Over recent years, significant events have impacted the way we run our businesses.
“As a result of this, some producers have reduced production or exited the industry altogether, while others have plans to expand.

“This important poultry intentions survey will capture crucial data which will be used to inform our lobbying work.
“The results will be instrumental in driving meaningful discussions with key stakeholders, from the government to representatives right across the supply chain.
“Whether you are a poultrymeat or egg producer, it’s vital you complete the survey to help strengthen our voice and work towards a resilient future for the sector.”
The new intentions survey follows the recent launch of a full Defra consultation into fairness in the egg supply chain, in response to the major contraction of the laying flock in 2021-22 as more producers went out of business.
Broiler growers recently set out their case for a similar investigation, complaining at continued high energy costs and unfair competition from cheap imports of poultrymeat, produced with the use of processed animal protein, which is banned in the UK.
