Free biosecurity poster launched to fight avian influenza
Poultry farmers have another weapon in their battle against avian influenza (AI) – a free biosecurity poster.
It has been jointly developed by the NFU and the British Free Range Egg Producers Association (Bfrepa) to raise awareness of on-farm biosecurity, highlighting preventative measures.

It also has as step-by-step guide on what farmers need to do before going in and out of poultry houses.
The NFU said that, while primarily a tool against AI, the poster provided guiding principles that would assist farmers in total disease prevention on farm, and ensure that flock health is optimised.
The launch of the poster comes at a time when further high-pathogenic AI cases are being discovered around the globe.
More than 20,000 chickens were slaughtered in Taiwan at the weekend following the discovery of the highly pathogenic H5N2 avian flu virus.
The poster is available from NFU CallFirst on 0370 845 8458 or from your NFU local group secretary. Up to 20 posters can be ordered at a time, but more can be obtained by emailing nfupoultry@nfu.org.uk if necessary.
