2 Sisters takes on more poultry graduates

Poultry giant 2 Sisters Food Group has taken on two new graduates as it supports the government’s drive to entice more youngsters into the industry.

Matthew Stubbins, 22, from Yorkshire, has recently graduated from Harper Adams University in Shropshire.

He has been with the business for just over a month and on a six-month induction, which will see him in a shadowing role “from farm to fork”. The plan is that he will then find a full-time role in a mutually agreeable part of the business.

“The opportunity to be able to work with the 2SFG Agriculture team will enable me to contribute to an industry which I am passionate about,” said the agri-food marketing and business studies graduate.

“Being able to gain experience in all parts of 2 Sisters is invaluable and I am learning and experiencing something new every day.”

Current Harper Adams student, 20-year-old Franky Peck from Suffolk, is on the placement year of her degree.

“It is fascinating to be involved with such an expansive company and get an insight into all areas of the industry, not only on the farms, but also further down the supply chain.”

Her placement is set out so that half of her time is spent assisting the agriculture team and the other half is spent shadowing and learning.

Group agricultural director Michelle Waterman said: “We recognise the importance of attracting young people into our industry and developing the talent of the future.

“Our graduate programme is a great way to tackle the problem of the ageing farming sector population, and it’s vital we bring new blood into the industry.”

Earlier this year, 2 Sisters signed up to another graduate initiative from Sainsbury’s, offering a six-month placement with the company as part of the retailer’s two-year graduate programme.
