New slurry guidelines to help pig industry

New guidelines are available to assist the Scottish pig industry on slurry and manure management.

A 30 page booklet – Pig Slurry and Manure Management– providing summary guidance on best practice has been produced by Quality Meat Scotland and SAC Environmental for Scottish pig producers. This is just one step in helping to assist producers in relation to NVZ legislation, which will require pig producers to have six months of slurry storage in NVZ areas by 2010.

The second phase of the project will assist producers by holding a number of workshops in different locations in Scotland and practical advice will also be given in person.
