Longhorn cattle sell to 1,800gns at Beeston
Longhorn cattle sold to 1,800gns at the seventh annual Northern Spring Sale on behalf of the Longhorn Cattle Society at Beeston Castle on 16th May.
Sale leader was the October 2012 born bull, Mayfield Maximus from J Newton, York. He is by Stoke Juniper out of a Settrington cow by Bejon Dickie. He sold for 1,800gns to Stephen Wright of Cottenham, Cambridge.
Just shy of this at 1,600gns was the pre-sale show champion Blackden Nicholas II from PV and MJ Robinson of Goostrey, Crewe. He is a son of Wellhead Dante and is out of a Bollin cow by Heyworth Elgar.
Trade for cows and calves was fairly buoyant, with the reserve champion leading female section when selling for 1,450gns to J and P Barlow of Holywell, Flintshire.
Averages: nine cows with calves at foot, ÂŁ1148.00; four in-calf cows, ÂŁ824.25; two in-calf heifers, ÂŁ1102.50; 12 maiden heifers, ÂŁ670.25; two bulls, ÂŁ1732.50.
