Lleyns in demand at Exeter
The opening sale of the autumn for the Lleyn breed set things off on a high for the breed, with a top price of 1950gns paid in the rams on offer at Exeter last week.
This best call was given for one from Emrys and Dylan Jones, Machynlleth, with their shearling finding a new home with G Martyn and Son, Launceston.
Next best was a 1300gns sale for the champion from the pre-sale show, with this one from A W Davies selling to Michael Miller, Dorset.
In the ewes a storming 95% clearance was achieved, with a best price of ÂŁ210/head paid for a pen of shearling ewes from Hefin Llwyd, Okehampton. This pen had been second in the pre-sale show and sold to Cator Blackaton Farming, Newton Abbot.
At ÂŁ200 was the first prize pen from D N Bennett and Sons, Powys, which sold to Collacombe Farms, Tavistock, while pens from A W Davies, Pwllheli, and Chilbolton Farms, Hampshire, also sold at this price when bought by Messrs Perkins and Partners, Lifton, and M Childs, Tiverton, respectively.
Top price in the ewe lambs was a ÂŁ170 bid for lambs from D N Bennett and Son which were second in the pre-sale show. These went home with Collacombe Farms (Exeter Market Auctioneers).
