Sheep sells for World record price of £231,000
A new UK and world record price for a sheep has been set at the Scottish National Texel Sale at Lanark Market, Scotland, when the champion from the pre-sale show sold for a staggering 220,000gns (£231,000). The record breaker, Deveronvale Perfection, was sold by Graham Morrison and surpasses the previous world record price of AUS$240,000 paid for a Merino which at today’s exchange rate would be about £122,537. The February born tup lamb, bred by embryo transfer, is by one of the breed’s leading tups Kelso Oxygen and out of a ewe by Knock Magnum. He is believed to have been sold to Jimmy Douglas, for his Cairness flock, Aberdeenshire.
