Pig industry personality named

JOHN MILLARD has been named as the first recipient of the Pig Industry Personality Award.

Mr Millard, head of Cambs-based pig breeding company JJ Genetics, was presented with the award at the Pig and Poultry Fair on Wednesday (May 12).

The judges said he was being recognised for his continued contribution to UK pig breeding and his commitment to promoting UK pig genetics around the globe.
 
The award was presented by Sonia Phippard, DEFRA‘s director of sustainable farming and livestock production.

The judges also presented a special award to Lynda Davies who is one of the founders of the Association of Swill Feeders.

Mrs Davies has campaigned for the last three years on behalf of those swill feeding pig producers who were put out of business by the ban on swill feeding introduced in 2001.
