Limousins sell to 32,000gns at Carlisle

Prices peaked at 32,000gns at the production sale of the Haltcliffe herd at Borderway Market last week (Friday 20 August).

Making 14,000gns was the three-year-old Haltcliffe Opal, sired by Ampertaine Elgin and out of a home-bred dam.

Opal sold back in-calf with her second by Haltcliffe Olympus and is due in November. She caught the eye of Claire Ferris, County Down.

But it was her August 2020-born heifer calf, Haltcliffe Raquel by Westpit Omaha, who stole the show, selling for 32,000gns. She was shared between Messrs Corrie, Newtownards, and Claire Ferris.  

On the same day, the dispersal sale of Procters Limousins, from near Clitheroe, topped at 16,000gns twice.

First to sell at the top price was the September 2020-born heifer, Procters Rdiamante.

She is an embryo calf sired by Haltcliffe Vermount and out of the Objat daughter Glenrock Diamante. Purchaser was Messrs Irvine, Keith, Banffshire.

At the same money was the six-year-old Procters Jewellery, sired by Glenrock Highwayman and out of Glenrock Diamante, who sold with her May-born heifer calf at foot, by Carrickmore Maximus.

They headed to Burnley, Lancashire, with Messrs Field.

Averages: Haltcliffe: 13 cows and heifers served/suckling, £9,571; six served heifers, £4,533; 12 maiden heifers, £4,655; and one bull, £8,400. Procters: 37 cows served/suckling, £6,328; six cows in-calf, £4,550; five recipients with embryo calves, £5,922; eight served heifers, £4,988; 18 maiden heifers, £3,494; three bulls, £5,425. (H&H)
