Let’s share the journey to net zero
Provided by
XLVets is a thriving community of independent, farm veterinary practices. Members of our community are proud of their independent status and the freedom it provides to focus on our patients, clients and people. As a community, our Members are committed to working together, sharing knowledge and experience to deliver the highest standards of livestock healthcare. With increasing recognition of how sustainable farming and food production will evolve, we stand ready to support our clients to meet new ways of working for the benefit of animals, farmers, society and the planet.
Inevitably, there are challenges ahead for many of us and this survey will help us identify what some of those might be. We thank you for your participation.

We are entering a new age for animal health and welfare, where disease will not only be recognised for its physical consequences to our livestock but also for the harm it does to our environment through loss of productivity and increased farm emissions.
As a community founded and owned by independent farm veterinary practices, our members are committed to working together, sharing knowledge and experience, to deliver the highest standards of livestock healthcare.
It will be evermore important that the trusting relationship built between farmer and vet is there to wrestle with the range of options available to them to make their livestock production more sustainable.
Transition
On the eve of the COP26 conference, climate change and sustainability are receiving significant media coverage at the moment.
Greenhouse gas emissions, climate change and biodiversity loss are threats to everyone, however they also present a new environment for success.
Those businesses able to embrace the opportunities for decarbonisation, sequestration and renewable energy will prosper.
As we transition towards net zero we will see an increased focus on livestock health planning, further scrutiny on the use of antimicrobials, efforts to reduce the incidence of lameness and mastitis in dairy herds, measures to improve biosecurity and reduce the spread of BVD and other endemic diseases, and a focus on preserving anthelmintic efficacy.
Improvements in these areas have the potential to deliver significant sustainability benefits to current production systems.
Who are we?
XLVets is a community of independently-owned veterinary practices. We believe by working together, we can achieve so much more.
Farm Vets are experts in disease control and animal health, and will understand the demands for change being placed on farmers by the government, consumers and others in the supply chain.
Their specialist knowledge will help evaluate the options, make decisions and implement changes.
They can also monitor performance and help develop an understanding of the effectiveness of the decisions made. Some may be able to benchmark performance against other farms in the area.
The journey to net zero feels overwhelming for most people right now. But, like most journeys, they’re made easier when you know you’re not travelling alone.
The XLVets community of independent practices is committed to supporting its livestock farmers as we front-up to the challenges ahead.
P.S. And we’ll also be there when things go wrong, when you need us most, day or night.
