Sheep race goes mobile

THOSE FARMERS who cannot always bring their sheep to the yard should take the yard to the flock, reasons Irish sheep handling specialist U-handler.

Based at Waterford in the Republic of Ireland, the company has recently developed a mobile sheep race that incorporates footbaths, a turnover crate and shearing gates.

The unit is ready for work as soon as the tailgate is lowered, minimising valuable time spent setting up and packing away.

An overhead line is fitted to carry dosing bottles, giving the operator more freedom to work along the 11m (36ft) race, while the front of the unit is fitted with two gates for drafting and separating animals.

Optional extras include an electronic ID tag reader and a 12V digital weighing system incorporated in the turnover crate. The unit is based on a 3.7m x 1.5m (12ft x 5ft) trailer chassis and weighs 380kg allowing it to towed with a 4×4 or ATV.

Prices for the unit start from ÂŁ4530.
