Farm disinfectant FAM 30 reinstated for bovine TB use

Major agricultural disinfectant FAM 30 has been reapproved by the Animal and Plant Health Agency (Apha) for use relating to bovine TB.

The multipurpose product was suspended from the approved list for certain uses by Apha in February, alongside several other disinfectant products.

However, following industry objections, it has been reinstated to the approved list of disinfectants for England, Scotland and Wales, albeit it at a new dilution rate of 1:14 for tuberculosis orders.

Nick Evans, animal health and agriculture sales manager at Evans Vanodine, which produces FAM 30, said: “This dilution should be used during a notified disease outbreak of TB where the Apha has confirmed an outbreak.

“At other times, including preventative measures against TB and other diseases, the legally authorised dilution, according to the GB Biocidal Products Regulation, is 1:100.”

FAM 30 is also approved at varying dilution rates for foot-and-mouth disease orders, swine vesicular disease orders, and general orders.

However, as of 25 March, FAM 30 was still suspended for poultry disease orders, including avian influenza in both birds and mammals.
