Carlisle Lims: Smaller entry sees averages £250 dearer

A smaller entry of bulls managed stronger prices on the year as averages inched higher and 16 sires made five-figure sums at Carlisle on Saturday (15 October).

Overall, 70 bulls changed hands for an average of £7,579, which was £250 dearer on the year. Trade twice topped at 20,000gns, with Ampertaine and Tomschoice genetics to the fore.

The first at this money was James and Sarah Cooper’s Tomschoice herd, Hill Top Farm, Dacre, with Tomschoice Snoopdog. He sold to Messrs Vaughan, Machynlleth, Powys.

Snoopdog is by Tomschoice Oriflamme and out of Tomschoice Jessyj, a Kaprico Ervalle daughter.

The North Yorkshire sire goes back to Mereside Leo and Mereside Godolphin on his sire’s side and is genotyped as F94L/F94L.

Matching this was Ampertaine Shanghi from the McKays, Maghera, County Londonderry. His myostatin is F94L/F9L.

His dam is the Ampertaine Magnum daughter Origin, and his sire is the Lowerffrydd Empire son, Whinfellpark Lomu. He sold to Messrs Ridley, Hesket Newmarket, Wigton.

Next at 19,000gns was an intermediate Spittalton bull from J Burnett and Sons, Blair Drummond, Stirling.

Spittalton Stag is by the Ampertaine Gigolo son Opportunity – who was bought jointly with the Goldies herd for 40,000gns – and out of the Trueman Jagger daughter Spittalton Nayla.

He carries an F94L and a Q240X gene and caught the eye of Messrs Simpson and Son, Alyth, Perthshire.

Wedderburn Stormzy then made 18,000gns, being snapped up in a joint bid by Messrs Atkinson, Ulverston, Cumbria, and Messrs Rowland, Llanidloes, Powys.

Stormzy is an F94L/F94L bull that goes back to Ampertaine Commander and Ronick Hawk. He is by Goldies Novelty and out of the Mountscott Donal daughter Wedderburn Hannah.

Next at 16,000gns was Pabo Spiceupyourlife from WP Hughes and Son, which headed to North Yorkshire, to Garrowby Farm, York. He also has the F94L/F94L myostatin gene.

He goes back to Fieldson Alfy and Gerrygullinane Glen, and is by the Derrygullinane Kingbull son Pabo Oldspice and out of the Netherhall Doubleoseven dam Pabo Izy.

Two then made 15,000gns. The first was Lomond Superstar from Andrew Orr, Wester Balgedie, Kinross. He sold to the Rentons, Morpeth, Northumberland.

He is an Ampertaine Magnum son out of the Ampertaine Elgin daughter Lomond Lush. Superstar carries the Q204X/Q204X myostatin pairing.

The Ampertaine Foreman son, Ampertaine Spark – also from the McKay pen – matched this bid. He headed to Shropshire with Messrs Wood and sons, Ratlinghope.

Spark is an F94L/F94L bull out of the Elgin daughter Irishluck and from a family that has already produced the 15,000gns Director, the 16,000gns Revolver and the 10,000gns Oblivion.

Four lots then made 12,000gns. Goldies Statesman from Bruce Goldie, Mouswald, Dumfries, sold to the McKenna Bros, Magherafelt, County Derry, for 12,000gns, which was matched by a bid from Messrs Campbell, Leswalt, Stranraer, for Redding Supreme from NP Wilson, Moffatt, Dumfries.

Also at this money was Aultside Samurai from Garry Patterson, Aultmore, Keith, who went home with Messrs Cadzow, Pencaitland, East Lothian.

Grahams Sterling, from the Graham family at Bridge of Allan, Stirling, was also knocked down at 12,000gns. He sold to Messrs Meldrum, Chapelton, Ballindalloch.
