Bumper crop of calves sell to £660 at Skipton

A bumper sale of calves was seen at Skipton Auction Mart’s summer rearing calf show and sale on Monday (17 August) with 187 youngstock forward.

Leading trade at £660 was the day’s reserve champion the British Blue-cross heifer calf from Peter, Paul and Shaun Sowray, Bowes Green Farm, Bishop Thornton. By Maidenlands Force, this one headed home with Vickers and Richardson.

The Sowrays also sold Blue-cross bull calves, which made £615 and £510 respectively, along with the first prize Continental bull stirk, a Charolais-cross sold for £525.

Vickers and Richardson also took home the overall champion another British Blue bull calf, this time forward by Mr Smith, Bent Farm, Sutton-in-Craven. By Auchenlay Echo and out of a Friesian cow, he made £650.
