Brown Swiss leads Beeston mid-month sale

A Brown Swiss heifer from Jack and Barclay Taylor, Myddle, Shrewsbury, led the trade at Wright Manley’s mid-month dairy sale at Beeston Castle, selling for ÂŁ2550.

This was one of 25 fresh calved heifers consigned by the Taylors and is by Italian bull Super Brown Jackpot. The sale topper, Burnbrae Jackpot Amanda, was a fortnight calved and sold giving 30kg a day to A W and B Titterton, Milwich Heath.

The Taylors dominated the top order, with the next five best prices all claimed by their fresh calved Holsteins. First to go at ÂŁ2450 was a homebred daughter of Aintree Goldmine Red. Then making ÂŁ2400 was another homebred heifer the same way bred.

Selling for ÂŁ2350 was a Gillette Final cut daughter, while an Ingleview Bennetton daughter sold at ÂŁ2300 and a Braedale Idefyre daughter made ÂŁ2200. All sold to regular buyers D and H E Colclough and Son, Hassall, Sandbach.

A brace from the Taylors then made ÂŁ2200, with the first a Kendall daughter which sold to L A and S M Lloyd, Welshpool, and the second a Stardale Vaughan daughter which went to John Morris and Sons, Llangollen.

Following that at ÂŁ2150 was one from Ian Bradburn, Orrell, Deanbank Emma 44. This calved heifer by Kendall was sold giving 37kg a day and went to R J and D J Clements, Stoke-on-Trent.

One from the Taylors then netted ÂŁ2100, with this being another Kendall daughter which went to L A and S M Lloyd, while at ÂŁ2050 was a Hidden View Best daughter from the same home which sold to John Morris and Sons.

At ÂŁ2080 was one from Mark Bowden, Malpas, this was a Reece daughter and went to the Lloyds again. Others from Mr Bowden made ÂŁ2000 thrice. Also at this price was Andrew and Linda Green’s heifer Shawfieldview Justice Dawn, this one went to Wilmot Blackley, Tarvin.

Averages; 166 milking cows and heifers ÂŁ1514.10, three served heifers ÂŁ1400, four maiden heifers ÂŁ540, 29 heifer calves ÂŁ371.37 (Wright Manley).
