Breedr launches cattle trading platform
Beef and dairy farmers can buy and sell livestock commission-free using the free Breedr app.
The app, which was launch in March last year, has recently developed a live trading platform.
It allows producers to buy and sell from other farmers with certainty, with a price guarantee in case of any differential in the weight of weaned calves and stores between farms.
Sellers are also ensured payment within 72 hours of collection, and trades will be service-fee free until later in the year.

The app also produces an automatic report for dairy farmers selling calves, guaranteeing compliance with milk processors’ requirements to monitor the first eight weeks of life.
Breedr says their team is on hand to help farmers with listing animals for sale, organising haulage, or introducing producers to nearby contacts.
The app records individual liveweight gain to predict future animal performance and date of sale for optimum profit, which the developers say provides greater transparency throughout the supply chain.
“As beef producers ourselves, we know how tricky it is to plan ahead with confidence – one batch of bad calves can ruin a farm,” says Ian Wheal, founder of Breedr (pictured above).
“But by making better use of data, we can buy and sell with transparency using predicted growth rates and clear recording of genetics and medicine use.
“We will soon be introducing a colostrum protocol whereby dairy farmers can offer a Breedr guarantee that every calf is fed colostrum as best practice,” explains Mr Wheal.
“This gets calves off to the best possible start, and offering a guarantee gives rearers the confidence that every batch will perform to its potential.
“For too long in livestock production, farmers have had to contend with uncertainty.
“We’re working to redress that: Together, farmers have the power to drive this positive change.”
The precision livestock network now has more than 2,000 members and 100,000 registered animals across the UK.
