Belgian Blue x Limousin steer stars at Hatherleigh Beef and Growing Cattle event

Strong numbers of both potential and prime cattle graced the showring at Hatherleigh for the Primestock show and taking care of the morning’s judging was Sussex-based farm manager John Giffin.

Taking the championship and £250 prize money were Nigel and Ben Jenkinson from Shebbear with a 550kg Belgian Blue x Limousin steer.

The steer was shown as a baby last Christmas, and the Jenkinsons plan to show him this Christmas at either Exeter or the National Primestock Show in Birmingham.

Standing a close reserve was Michael Kirby from Holsworthy with his purebred Aberdeen Angus heifer bought last year as a calf from Lockerly Hall Farms, Romsey. Her next outing is likely to be the Royal Smithfield Christmas Fair at Shepton Mallet.
