Tsunami destroys farmland in Japan
Thousands of acres of farmland have been destroyed in north-east Japan after an earthquake sparked a tsunami.
The earthquake, which measured 8.9 on the Richter Scale, occurred 80 miles off the coast of the country at about 5.46am GMT (2.46pm local time).
The quake triggered 10m-high tsunami, which tore through farms, destroying crops, washing away buildings and swamping huge swathes of farmland.
Evacuations have been carried out across the country as aftershocks measuring more than 7.1 on the Richter Scale hit the area.
More than 200 people have so far been confirmed dead, although that number is expected to rise.
