Historic renovated house in Devon
A stunning Devon estate that belongs to the grandson of former prime minister Harold Macmillan is attracting plenty of interest, according to selling agent Knight Frank.
The 300-acre Hayne Manor Estate, eight miles from Launceston, was bought by Alexander Macmillan, second Earl of Stockton, 14 years ago for ÂŁ139,000.
After extensive renovation it is now on the market for ÂŁ5.5m.
Agent Clive Hopkins said:
“For people moving from east to west you’re getting a lot of property for your money.”
Knight Frank has just sold the 649-acre Culham Court Estate near Henley-on-Thames for well over its ÂŁ25m guide.
“There were four bidders all prepared to pay well over that,” he said.
Knight Frank was also involved in the purchase of Clarendon Park, Grainfarmers chairman Andrew Christie Miller’s 4000-acre Wiltshire Estate, which was on the market with CKD Kennedy Macpherson for 30m.
Marc Jonas, a 37-year-old banker, reportedly beat off strong competition from other City bidders to secure the property.
