The star of this year’s Agritechnica show has to be Fendt’s Trisix six-wheeled tractor.

The German maker believes that adding an extra pair of wheels boosts traction to the level of tracked machines without the latter’s high cost and tendency to scuff on turns.

At the moment the Trisix is a concept study, so you can’t go out and buy one. But the hope is that the level of interest will be so great that it might make it into production.

All six wheels on the 7.6m (25ft) long and 2.75m wide (9ft) tractor are suspended and Fendt says it plans to have a central tyre pressure control system to give maximum flexibility in the field and on the road.

Intriguingly, the maker says that it is capable of 60kph (38mph) which means that it could run on German motorways (though maybe not on UK ones).

Power comes from a 540hp engine allied to two vario CVT transmissions. As well as the usual front and rear linkages, a third top mounting area behind the cab gives extra options for mounting ballast weights, transport containers or hitching to articulated trailers.
