VIDEO: What farmers think about the Olympics

A passionate amateur filmmaker has interviewed a collection of farmers in Surrey about their views on the forthcoming London Olympics opening ceremony.

Last month it was revealed that the ceremony, masterminded by Danny Boyle, will have a farm and countryside theme, complete with real livestock, crops and meadows.

“At the time I made this film at the beginning of June, the dairy farm owner told me he was going lose about £2,000 a month as a result of the cuts of 2p a litre, enough to close down his farm. Others have closed down nearby,” said the filmmaker, known only as the “Film Artist”.

“If this continues there will be no dairy farms left in England and all the milk in the UK will have to be imported, but farmers are still upbeat about the Olympic opening ceremony which is celebrating them.”

The filmmaker has a smallholding of his own, which is where his interest in farming originated, and this isn’t the first time he has used the industry as the subject of his films. Last year he produced a short film on the subject of harvest.
