Spalding Model Tractor Show raises £1,810 for charity

Fram Farmers machinery buyer Dan Hewitt and his wife Kerry Gooden raffled off a unique model at the recent Spalding Model Tractor Show, raising £1,810 for Breast Cancer Now.

The couple, who took over the show three years ago, sold tickets to win a hand-built miniature replica of the Bailey silage trailer, paired with a colour-matched JCB Fastrac 8330.

All proceeds from the raffle went to the charity Breast Cancer Now, which holds a special place in their hearts.

“It was an incredibly successful weekend, which brought so much joy to so many, with more than 1,000 attendees,” said Dan.

The raffle winner was Peter Roddy of County Down, Northern Ireland, who donated the model back to Dan and Kerry so they could raise more money for the charity.

“Incredible generosity!” said Dan.

Streamed live

Raffle tickets were sold for £5 each, and the draw took place at 12pm on 6 April at the show, with the event streamed live on Facebook.

Dan and Kerry stepped in to help run the show three years ago, originally alongside another couple, Chris and his partner Liz, who had breast cancer.

Sadly, Liz’s breast cancer has returned, and she is currently facing that difficult battle once again.

“We wanted to do something to help and raise money for all those battling cancer,” said Dan.

“My step-mum had just passed away from cancer, so it was very raw for me.

“If we could help another family avoid what we’ve been through over the last seven months, we would do anything.

“It’s an awful disease, and we just tried to do our bit to help out.”

Attendance

The Spalding Model Tractor Show, which had been running for 37 years, saw its attendance double since Dan and Kerry took over three years ago.

“This raffle wasn’t for the benefit of the business, but to raise awareness,” Dan explained.

“We are passionate about the show, and the community was just as important as the event itself.”

The show featured the largest collection of model dealers in the UK, alongside classic and modern tractor displays.
