Photos: YFC through the years at the Great Yorkshire

Visitors to the Young Farmers’ Club stand at the Great Yorkshire Show will be able to see a unique collection of newly discovered historical photos.

Members are busy sorting through the dozens of pictures and turning them into a timeline display for the stand at number 188 between the Food Hall and the sheep pens.

Emily Packer, chairman of the YFC@GYS committee, has particularly enjoyed looking at the fashion parades and royal visits.

“The fashions include everything from wedding outfits to ballgowns and puffball skirts,” she says.

“I’ve also been overwhelmed to discover the number of royal and other distinguished guests the stand has received over the years.”

Fun challenges and competitions remain the backbone of the stand, which is run jointly by the Yorkshire and East Riding YFC Federations.

It also traditionally hosts a debate on the last day of the show, with this year’s to be chaired by the new president of the NFYFC movement, broadcaster and presenter Charlotte Smith.

“We always say you don’t need to be a farmer to be a young farmer,” added Emily. “The stand at the Yorkshire Show is an ideal opportunity to pop in and find out all you need to know about joining.”
