Photo of the Week: Poignant photo amid farming protests

As farmers in their thousands flocked to the capital this week to take a stand against the government’s farm policy changes, this photo acts as a reminder of the potential impact they could have on the next generation.

It was sent in by Karen, who told Farmers Weekly she took the photo a couple of years ago. The photo shows her son and his friend looking on while the combine brings in the harvest.

“My son has a passion for farming and talks about it being his career path after school,” she says. “The image feels poignant given this week’s protests.

“Farmers are custodians of their land, not wealthy landowners.

“Their land must be safeguarded for our future generations, to sustain their passion, livelihood and sheer grit for farming, putting meals on our tables.”
