Photo of the Week: Eye-catcher in the flock
The story of the Holstein calf Happy, whose unique markings resemble a smiley face, has been everywhere in the media this week, with the farmers deciding to keep Happy on the farm as a pet.
But we think we can beat the record of the most unusual marking, as one reader sent us a striking photo of a lamb born with markings resembling a sheep face.
After it was born, Fiona’s sister spotted the sheep face on its back, and it’s now a bit of an “eye-catcher in the flock”.

It got us wondering whether our farmer readers would ever justify keeping their animals because of the “cute” factor – let us know or better yet, send us pictures of your own farm animal’s unusual markings.
Do you have a photo of the week? Send it to the FWi deputy editor martin.ward@markallengroup.com – don’t forget to include the credit and a line explaining the story behind the photo – or upload it to our Farmlife Framed photo gallery.
