New vice-chancellor for Royal Agricultural University

The Royal Agricultural University has a new vice-chancellor – Prof Joanna Price – who becomes the first female to occupy the role in the 171-year history of Cirencester.

Prof Price qualified as a veterinary surgeon from the University of Bristol, then spent a number of years in veterinary practice – mainly equine – before returning to academic life.

Her research has focused on the way bones adapt to mechanical loading and how bone regenerates.

“This marks the start of an exciting new chapter for the Royal Agricultural University, not least because Jo will be the first female vice-chancellor of this institution,” said a spokeswoman.

Previously, Prof Price was based at the University of Bristol where she had been head of the veterinary school since 2009.

Prior to that, she worked at the Royal Veterinary College in London, University College London and the University of Sheffield.

She is a member of the Wales Animal Health and Welfare Framework Group, a Trustee of the Bristol Zoological Society, and Chairman of Trustees of Horses4Homes – an equine rehoming charity.

Professor Price’s outside interests are horseriding and skiing.
