Machinery buffs excel in Identi-Kit competition
Our inaugural Identi-Kit competition sparked lots of interest, with readers showing their knowledge of all matters machinery.
We asked you to identify the six pictures of machines or equipment taken from close-up, oblique or unusual angles – and the winner was forums user JamesL.
He managed to get four out of the six items right. Other users also scored well – but James was first with a high score so we thought he deserved the ÂŁ20 prize. That’s part of the fun of the quiz: if you delay posting your answers, you’ll get the chance to see other people’s suggestions on the thread, but we’ll always favour the early responders!
The correct answers were:
1) Claas Lexion 600 combine
2) TCU (traction control unit), which was David Brown’s draft control system on its 990 tractor.
3) Front grille of a Ford 4000 (yes, we know that’s virtually identical to the 4600 and 5000 ranges) .
4) Fendt Variotronic control pad. This one was on a prototype 939 (just to make it really difficult) although it is the same as several other Varios!
5) Front left wing of a Massey Ferguson ATV (actually made by Arctic Cat).
6) Massey Ferguson 711 potato digger. |
Identi-Kit Competition 2 is now live on the forums – it’s a great chance to pit your wits against your friends and colleagues. Some are easy, some will take all your experience, knowledge and judgement. Good luck!
