FW photo competition 2024: 8 of the best entries so far

With just two weeks left to enter this year’s Farmers Weekly photography competition, our galleries are filling up with your brilliant images of farming, the countryside and rural life.

So don’t delay – snap some new shots or dig out a few old favourites and send them to us before Friday 22 November for a chance to win a share of a £500 cash prize.

A winner and three runners-up will be selected from each category to feature in our bumper Christmas double issue.

Then in early January, a winner of winners and two runners-up will be chosen from the top eight images, taking home a cash prize of £300 and £100 each respectively.

Thanks to those of you who have uploaded your images so far – we’ve enjoyed looking at every one of them.

Chloe Hyde, who runs a flock of 750 South Wales Mountain ewes, captured the moment one of the lambs brought in from the harsh weather sheltered in a ring feeder

Young photographer

Sam Channer, aged 12, proved his great eye for photography with this action shot of the maize harvest before the rain.

Mili Smith sent in this great picture, snapped while watching the Northern Lights after a busy day on the farm.

Wildlife

A sneaky grey squirrel was captured by Mary Wild in this shot, as it scurried off with a conker in Darley Dale public park, Warwickshire.

Landscapes

Katherine Calvert snapped this striking picture in August, not far from her farm in the beautiful area of Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales, famous for its walking routes.

Machinery

Rob Barrie submitted this picture of Len Duguid and Scott Begg harvesting on the picturesque Aberdeenshire coast, with Dunnottar Castle as a backdrop.

How to enter

You can submit as many pictures in as many categories as you like, but please note the competition is not open to professional photographers.

The categories are:

  • Black and white
  • Livestock
  • Landscapes
  • Machinery
  • People
  • Pets
  • Wildlife
  • Young photographer (open to anyone 16 or under on the closing date).

It’s quick and easy to enter, simply upload your best pictures to one or more of the relevant online galleries at fwi.co.uk/photo-comp-24

Top Tip: The higher the resolution the better (ideally, we need a minimum file size of 2MB or bigger) and we like to read a short description with your snaps, too – so don’t forget to tell us when and where your photo was taken, and what it shows.

The closing date is Friday 22 November
