Photo of the Week: Rainbow arches over winter wheat drilling
Thanks to James Richardson at John Richardson & Son in Gipsey Bridge, Lincolnshire, for this scenic shot of winter drilling framed by a glorious rainbow.
David Richardson told Farmers Weekly: “Last year was incredibly difficult with the exceptional wet back-end, and after 250 acres rotted with the wet, we weren’t able to drill any winter crops.
“Being a forest driller, we didn’t move any land to allow it to dry. We had a late 2024 harvest due to spring cropping.
“This year the land has been more favourable and, being our fifth year of direct drilling, we think the land is structuring better and taking the rain well.
“South Lincs this year has been fortunate to [have] missed the heavy rains (so far), [so] drilling is now completed.
“The Amazone Condor has performed very well again, allowing us to pick weather windows – we use a T7 315 as the power unit.”
