Photo of the Week: Proud mum shows off her Zwartble lamb
This week’s photo comes from our lambing gallery and celebrates January arrival Zwartble ram lamb called Methleigh Major Tom.
Sarah, who sent the photo in, has had Zwartbles since 2020, but has only recently started breeding them for showing.
She says: “Breeding Zwartbles can be a lottery.” Not only are there strict guidelines for body shape and conformation, but the colour markings have to also conform to the breed standards.

Sarah says: “For example, the blaze can be broken, the tail can’t be over 50% white, the two back feet must have white socks, going all the way round the leg, but mustn’t extend past the hock, or the knee if they have socks at the front.
“They can’t have any white in the wool at all… and that’s not all of them!”
Luckily, ewe Kata conforms to standards, she produced a gorgeous ewe lamb and a very handsome ram lamb.
The photo shows Kata with her ram lamb enjoying some winter sunshine on herbal lays on the farm in Cornwall.
