Photo of the Week: Cow tends to newborn calf in Scottish Highlands

“It’s always a joy to see new life on the estate and calving season brings plenty of those moments,” says Amy Cropper, who captured the special bond between a cow and her freshly born Blackmount Luing heifer calf.

Amy and her family run a herd of primarily Luings on a privately owned estate across more than 36,000ha in the Scottish Highlands.

“We are currently in the middle of calving season, which is always a busy but rewarding time of year,” says Amy.

The Luings are well suited to the Highland environment, and the Croppers are passionate about farming hand-in-hand with nature.

“Farming as a family is both challenging and fulfilling,” admits Amy.

“We take great pride in raising hardy, high-quality cattle while involving our children in farm life from a young age. We aim to improve the environment along the way.”
