Photo of the Week: “All to play for” as wheat harvest begins

Helyer Farms in Chichester got started harvesting a 100ha block of wheat on the 31 July having recently cut OSR at about 6% moisture with yields averaging around 1.6t/acre.

It’s too soon to comment on yield quality, but Paul, who runs the farm, told Farmers Weekly it looks to be average so far, and bushel weights seem to be good too at 81.

Proteins seem lower than normal, which could be due to overcast weather from earlier this year, but at present there’s “everything to play for”.
