Farmers stage ‘agricultural Olympics’
A group of farmers have staged their own “agricultural Olympics”, including events such as the wheelbarrow slalom, hay stacking and egg tossing, on a farm at Coniston Cold, North Yorkshire.
Organised by the Coates family of Pot Haw Farm, who run the off-road riding venue Craven Country Ride, two teams competed fiercely for gold across six events, which also included wellie wanging and an obstacle course.
Before going in to the final event of the day – the tug of war – Team Massey Ferguson needed a 5-0 victory over its rivals Team John Deere to become overall champions. They duly delivered, winning by a wafer-thin margin of 17 points to 16.
The “agricultural Olympics” took place as Team GB was achieving great success in the real Olympic Games, with the most gold medals in more than 100 years.
