Farm students set to benefit from new award

The NFU Mutual Charitable Trust is launching an award for postgraduate students in agriculture.

The Centenary Award will give annual bursaries to pay 75% of course fees for selected students in agriculture (Masters or PhD), with NFU Mutual having donated £250,000 to fund the programme.

“Our aim is to help make a real difference to the future of agriculture,” says NFU Mutual chairman Sir Don Curry.

The award is open to students of the British Islands who have gained, or are currently expecting to gain, a 2:1 or above in agriculture or a closely related degree, and have been accepted or provisionally accepted on a Masters or PhD course in agriculture beginning in Autumn 2010.

It is expected that around five people will be selected in 2010 and the topic areas of interest for eligible students are sustainable agriculture, climate change and agriculture, and international agricultural development.
