Beef genetics auction raises £27k for Ukraine
A charity auction of beef genetics hosted by auctioneer Harrison & Hetherington has raised £27,000 for the Pick-ups for Peace campaign, which donates 4×4 vehicles to troops in Ukraine.
Angus, Hereford, Limousin and Charolais genetics were donated from around the UK, with 51 lots being sold at Borderway market via an online auction on 25 and 26 May.

The event was organised by Northumberland-based Aberdeen Angus breeder Daniel Whiteford after he took part in a Pick-ups for Peace delivery earlier this year.
Mr Whiteford said: “When I went out to Ukraine last month to donate my own truck, I saw for myself what the Ukrainian people were facing, and what a difference these pickups are making to the 24th Brigade.
“We started asking other beef farmers if they would donate lots for an online sale, and the response and generosity was incredible.”
Scott Donaldson, managing director of Harrison & Hetherington, added: “This whole initiative was a wonderful testimony to the UK farming community and their determination to support the Ukrainian people, and it just shows what can be done in two weeks.”
