ATV safety sessions on offer to YFC members
Members of the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (NFYFC) are being offered free training to improve ATV safety.
The courses, announced at the Royal Welsh Show during Farm Safety Week, will give 25,000 members across England and Wales potentially life-saving advice.
Run by Honda, the ATV maintenance training sessions will be offered to all 624 Young Farmers’ Clubs between October to January and will cover topics such as:
- How an ATV gearbox or engine works
- What tyre pressures should be and why this is important
- What should be checked regularly to ensure the machine is safe

Steve Morris, head of power products at Honda (UK), said: “These fun and informative sessions are aimed at educating members on ATV maintenance and safety.
“Safety is very important to Honda and a properly maintained ATV is a step in the right direction to ensure safe usage.”
Safety knowledge
NFYFC chairman Ed Ford said: “We all have to work much harder to make our industry safer and ensuring the next generation of farmers is equipped with the correct safety knowledge is a priority.”
The launch comes at a time when the latest HSE statistics show agriculture has the worst fatal injury rate of any industry in Britain.
It also coincides with the NFYFC calling on its 624 clubs to “pledge” their commitment to putting safety training on their programmes in 2017-18.
This training, which has been developed with the Farm Safety Foundation, is delivered by certified trainers and is part of NFYFC’s suite of training courses called “the Curve”.
