Are these the best farming-themed festive adverts?

Countless brands have built their Christmas advertising campaigns on working from home and celebrating key workers this year.

While they range from the twee and try-hard to the downright depressing, we we’ve found a few cracking festive adverts that thank farmers for their essential role in feeding the nation throughout the pandemic.

Online grocer Farmdrop has launched its 2020 Christmas ad campaign, focusing on who they say are the most forgotten critical workers of 2020: Britain’s farmers.

The short, funny adverts feature farmers hopelessly attempting to work from the farmhouse, while hilariously trying to organise cattle, sheep, goats, hens and the sheep dog.

Anyone who has had the pleasure of conducting virtual meetings over the past year will relate to these calamitous calls.

Ultimately, it gets people thinking about the work that can’t be done on a laptop – producing food and caring for the environment.

“Food has been a core point of discussion this year; from supermarket shortages to people discovering a love of baking sourdough,” says ad man Josh Clarricoats, managing partner of the advertising agency behind the idea.

“With these films for Farmdrop, we wanted to get back to the people who have ultimately helped fuel our 2020. Behind all of this are our farmers – out there come rain or shine.”
