Livestock 2014: NC Engineering puts powershift into pivot-steer loaders
Pivot-steer loaders have maintained a strong farmer following in the livestock sector, particularly those dealing with the daily challenge of awkward-shaped sheds.
Northern Ireland firm NC Engineering is a relatively new name in the telehandler world having launched its maiden machine last year, which it hopes will go some way to replacing the legendary bend-in-the-middle Matbro.
In a pretty competitive market, NC hopes its powershift transmission will be the standout attraction. The four-speeder will be the preferred gearbox choice for plenty of potential buyers comparing it with hydrostatically driven alternatives.

The Deutz engine provides 100hp and the load-sensing hydraulic pump is rated to 91 litres/min. NC reckons its oil-on-demand hydraulic system can save up to 15% of total fuel used by only pumping the hydraulics when they’re needed, too.
Maximum lift is 2,400kg, and it’ll take 1,500kg all the way up to almost 4.7m. The cab is NC-designed with a multifunction joystick and pillar-mounted transmission display.
A pin-and-cone headstock is standard and the asking price is a pretty competitive £67,000.
