Lamma: 1.6m tractors produced at Basildon since 1964
New Holland was celebrating 50 years of tractor manufacturing in the UK at this year’s Lamma show. The plant started off making Ford 2000, 3000, 4000 and 5000 tractors at Basildon in Essex.
Since then it has turned out 1.6m tractors and 3.1m engines and currently makes between 20,000 and 25,000 tractors a year. Some 97% of these are exported to 120 countries.
To celebrate its 50th birthday, the company is offering two special edition models with a dark blue paintwork, leather steering wheel and thick carpets. One is a 160hp four-cylinder T6.160 AutoCommand and the other a six-cylinder T7.270 AutoCommand and both are available just for this year.
