Grassland UK: Schaeffer loader
German firm Schaeffer was showing off its flagship telescopic loading shovel at Grassland.
With a lift capacity of 4.9t and an overall weight of 14t, it is clearly a heavyweight, making it ideal for buck-raking, according to the firm. But it’s not necessarily confined to such work. Its meaty-looking three-stage boom will reach up to 6.4m, allowing it to comfortably stack bales, load grain lorries or feed hungry biogas digesters – one of the tasks it was originally designed for. A choice of either 180hp or 210hp Deutz engines provide the muscle, driving through a three-range hydrostatic transmission. It costs £148,000 – just over £10,000 a tonne.
