Cereals 2017: 11 of the best photos from the event
Farmers, experts and industry leaders gathered under clear blue skies yesterday (15 June) for the first day of Cereals 2017 in Boothby Graffoe, Lincolnshire.
Temperatures hit about 25C, prompting queues at the ice-cream vans for a chilly snack to enjoy while event-goers perused the crop plots.
We’ve picked out 11 of our favourite photos from the first day of the event.

1. The best way to get around the Cereals site
The Cereals site is massive – this little girl has the best mode of transport sorted.
2. “Sorry, I was miles away”
Sometimes Cereals can seem like a whole other universe, literally. This woman is trying out a virtual reality headset.
3. Big bugs
Slightly scary, but certainly eye-catching. Imagine if oilseed rape growers actually had to deal with peach potato aphids like this one.
4. “I spy with my little eye…”
This giant ladybird didn’t do a very good job of hiding in the clover.
5. Take five and have a read of Farmers Weekly
The hot weather proved to be too much for these two. They grabbed a spot of shade for a sit down while they caught up with the latest Farmers Weekly coverage of Cereals, no doubt.
6. “Drink up blackgrass”
It was so hot, even the blackgrass got a drink.
7. Weeder-tech revolution
The future of weed control was on show. This robotic weeder from French manufacturer Carre autonomously hoes between crop rows. Watch a video of the weeder in action.
8. “Ewe know this is an arable event, right?”
We reckon it’s the first time we’ve seen livestock at Cereals. Sheep were being billed as the answer to growers’ blackgrass control woes.
9. Colourful cropping
Wildflower plots brought an extra splash of colour to the event.
10. Big kit fanatics
As ever, the machinery stands drew in big crowds of kit-crazy farmers.
11. Sprayers on show
The Sprayer Arena is always a big hit with event-goers, showing off the latest sprayer technology with live demonstrations.
