Agritechnica: Biso header gets down to business with short crops
It seems combine headers are continuing to grow at the rate of a lanky teenager, with Austrian header specialist Biso currently testing a 16m (52.5ft) version of its Ultralight header.
The jumbo-jet-sized headers are designed primarily for the American and Canadian market where fields are mainly level and road travel is less of an issue.
But when it comes to ground undulations or flat crops you’ll need some seriously good crop lifters if you’re going to manage to get all the crop into the combine.
The aluminium-framed header has an 800mm adjustable table and can be set just 225mm from the intake auger when harvesting short crops.
The knife and auger are driven from both ends, which should reduce vibrations and stress on the header, too.
It can also be specced with hydraulically driven and foldable side knives that stay on the machine all the time, and the company claims it is possible to make the sometimes stress-inducing switch from cereals to rape in less than five minutes.
List price is €73,000, or an extra €7,000 if you add the side knives. A trolley with a hydraulic rear-steering axle adds another €10,000 and has been tested around small roundabouts, we’re assured.
