VIDEO: Dairy farmers gear up for London protest

Shropshire farmer James Franklin explains why he is joining hundreds of dairy producers set to descend on London this week in protest at milk price cuts.

The protest is being held to coincide with an emergency dairy summit to be held at Methodist Central Hall, Westminster, on Wednesday (11 July).

Mr Franklin farms a 100-cow dairy herd at Newport, Shropshire.

A series of cuts that will reduce farmgate milk prices by up to 5p per litre is expected to knock £50,000 off the average dairy farm income.

“It is a phenomenal amount of money,” says Mr Franklin.

Farmers have threatened further protests unless dairy processors reverse the cuts by 1 August.
