VIDEO: Crop confusion over CAP reform plans

European Union proposals to reform the Common Agricultural Policy would require arable farmers to have at least three crops in a “balanced rotation”.

But just what is an arable crop?

Wheat, barley and oilseed rape are easily identified as different crops.

But how about winter wheat and spring wheat? Or different varieties of the same crop type?

The situation is complex and open to interpretation, as NFU chief arable adviser Guy Gagen tells Farmers Weekly chief reporter Johann Tasker.
