Strong trade at Crymych sheep market

Crymych sheep market, Pembrokeshire Wednesday’s (16 November) sale saw 1,408 store lambs and 228 cull ewes go under the hammer at the new and expanded ÂŁ750,000 market, opened just two months ago. Welsh Mountain cull ewes averaged ÂŁ56.50 a head, and reached a top of ÂŁ102, said Dyfan Davies, auctioneer at J J Morris.

Lamb values were ÂŁ4 stronger on the week, due to the seasonal decline in numbers and improved fat lamb trade. Welsh Mountain store lambs sold to ÂŁ75 a head, with Continentals peaking at ÂŁ85 and all types averaging ÂŁ66.50.

“We are getting towards the end of the season, but quality overall was pretty good,” said Mr Davies. “There were plenty of buyers, some of whom went home empty handed.”
