SAC to sell part of college farm

Part of the SAC’s Ayr College farm is for sale following a decision to develop part of the Auchincruive Estate.

The 144 acres of land at Mount Loudoun is surplus to requirements and is on the opposite side of the River Ayr from the site of this major development, which includes a new village of up to 495 houses, 60,000sq ft of business and research space, a wedding and conference centre, a golf course and equestrian centre.

The farmland is Class 3 (1) and has been managed as part of the Ayr College farm since 1927. About 94 acres are down to pasture, although according to CKD Galbraith’s Bob Cherry most could be cropped with arable. The rest is woodland.

With little or no hope value for development, Mr Cherry expects a nearby farmer to snap up the land. “It is good enough and big enough that someone within a five to 10-mile radius will buy it and run it.” Offers over ÂŁ300,000 are sought. (CKD Galbraith 01292 268 181)
