Rsabi urges farmers to apply for Help for Heating grants

As the cost-of-living crisis continues to affect many across the country, Scottish agricultural charity Rsabi has urged farmers and crofters to make use of its Help for Heating financial support, for those struggling with the cost of heating their homes.

The charity reports that ongoing financial pressure has already resulted in a 55% increase in applications for the heating grants, with demand expected to remain strong into the new year.

Rsabi welfare manager Chris McVey said: “Our Help for Heating grants are available to farmers, crofters and others working in, or retired from, agriculture who are struggling with the rising costs of heating bills.

“The grants are simple and quick to apply for, with funding starting at £300 available to those spending more than 10% of their household income on heating costs and finding it difficult to afford essentials like food and clothing.”

Rural houses are often old, can be difficult to insulate properly and are costly to heat.

Mr McVey continued: “We know there will be many households out there who were managing. But now, with the cost-of-living crisis, fixed-term energy contracts ending, and increased home energy and input costs, financial pressure is growing, which can cause stress and really start to affect an individual’s mental health.”

In cases where finances have become difficult, Rsabi is able to quickly arrange a pre-paid debit card to pay for grocery shopping. It can also arrange purchases where household goods break down and paying for replacement items is not possible.
