A large entry of 370 cattle sold in a very firm trade at Saturday’s (25 May) sale. Forward store bullocks sold to 223.75p/kg for a 590kg beast, with other good quality lots fetching 190-206p/kg. Friesians sold to 182p/kg, with lighter steers peaking at 229p/kg for a 380kg animal, and running at 180-200p/kg in the main.


Just over 200 store heifers sold readily, with a 500kg heifer peaking at 217p/kg and others at 185-198p/kg. Middleweight heifers sold to 214p/kg and averaged 180-200p/kg, with lightweights ranging from 185-200p/kg and peaking at 227p/kg for a 220kg animal.


Cull cows sold to 164p/kg, with several in the 130-150p/kg bracket. Good-quality suckler cows fetched ÂŁ1,000-1,240, with weanling bulls at 170-254p/kg.
