Severe weather meant throughputs were well down on Monday (26 November), but demand remained firm for both sheep and cattle. The 555 prime lambs reached a top of ÂŁ71.50 for 50kg lambs, with 36kg lambs peaking at 160p/kg.
“The SQQ stays the same at 148p/kg, and the influx of bigger lambs helped increase the average per head to ÂŁ64.56,” said Kivells auctioneer Russell Steer. Better quality cull ewes resulted in a ÂŁ15 increase in average prices, with 369 head settling at ÂŁ61.03. Top call went to a pen of Suffolks, at ÂŁ106.50.
In the cattle ring a smart 33-month-old South Devon cross heifer took the top prime price of 189.5p/kg, with barren cows topping at 164.5p/kg and bulls at 139.5p/kg.
